Question 1The white rhino was a response to the recent death of the last male white rhino. I took several print outs and cut outs of endangered animals and pasted them onto a template and cut out the rhino. The background I chose made the rhino really pop and show what it was really about. The clay bowl was one of my favorite projects. (I don’t have a picture.) I took a bunch of small clay balls of different sizes and formed them into a bowl by scoring and slipping. I then glazed it red which gave great contrast to the other red objects in my living room. The Family Guy visual biography wasn’t something I really wanted to do. This project was thrown together and not planned out at all, but I did like the way it turned out. Stewie's head ended up a little unproportional to the rest but that’s ok because it used up a lot of space around the page. The next project was the cardboard cactus. This project was very hard, I had cut the cardboard, so it rolled up into the shape, but the problem was my math, as well as my cuts were not accurate enough and it didn’t quite fit the way I wanted it to. But the cardboard gave the cactus great texture and shape. For my final project I chose the Rhino, the clay bowl, the Family Guy visual biography, the cardboard cactus and my first 3-point perspective. When I started the 3-point perspective I had never done any kind of 3 point just two and one point. This project taught me a lot about proportion. My doors on some of the buildings were way to big compared to the size of the building and if I had drawn people it probably would have been the same. I did not leave a background on this one because I wanted it to be very basic just like a concept drawing of a city. Question 2I would say I am most proud of the cardboard sculpture (Picture above)s it turned out well and was by far the hardest to make which gave me a challenge. The math behind it was amazing and required a lot of planning to get it to roll up the way it did. The texture that the spikes got from the cardboard worked out perfect and was proportioned the way I wanted it to be. This project taught me a lot about the need to be very accurate with cuts so that everything fits correctly. The only other thing I wish I would have done is go back and paint it with something that would have given it realistic texture. Question 3For my final project I did a freehand 2-point perspective. I wanted to improve my straight lines so no better way than no ruler. I used pencil to create the rough outline and the gradients. Then went over it with pen for the final lines. I didn’t really give it a background because I just wanted to show a simple place where there isn’t much going on. I feel like the world could use something simple sometime. I made the lines contrast a lot which makes it stand out. I tried not to make the buildings to dark to keep a balance in the brick and the negative space around the drawings. The brick took the longest on all the buildings trying to keep it. This compared to the practice drawings has a lot more detail and better proportion. I wished I would have shaded the buildings in a little bit to match the windows but sadly I did not. This was one of the many projects that have taught me so much about the concept of making a peice of art that makes an impact on someone. First, I had went and made a Pinterest board with several ideas for my project. I used some of the details that were on the buildings and such as the cracks but not the actual buildings. (you saw my Pinterest board it was memorable. ) The first practice drawing was just an idea for a building which never exactly made it into the final drawing. I didn’t want to spend a lot of time on it and make it super detailed because I still wanted to have time to add those little details to the final one. The second drawing was even less detailed, but it was an option for the corner house that I wanted to experiment with but didn’t end up liking it, so I left it as it was. Question 4To make this art class better we could have used more projects toward the end of the year to keep everyone busy. Otherwise I really think the workload was perfect and the class was fun. I loved the clay unit many more tools than middle school, dead serious we had forks as a tool. The tape murals were one of my favorite things to make because they were so involving for everyone. This class was fun and honestly my favorite this semester except for the freshman.
This was made following the death of the last white rhino. I took pictures of endangered animals out of magazines and from the internet and pasted them to a very basic outline the cut out the shape of the rhino. I learned that its very hard to find magazines at school that you're allowed to cut animals out of. After pasting and cutting I applied the Rhino to a background and called it a day. This project went very smoothly and I had no major issues. I believe that this work is very meaningful to the world as we need to be careful with endangered species and make room for everything on the planet.
*Not pictured because I don't have it*
The clay bowl that I made consisted of a bunch of balls that were scored and the slipped attached to each other then creating a bowl. I would roll a ball out of the clay in the plastic form then score and slip it to attach it to the mangle of balls. In the end I wished I would have made it a layer taller but that's fine because there is always next time. This is my visual biography of Peter Griffin. I drew the kids without a body because I can and made the house the base. It was kind of challenging to get the proportion of the characters right just going off of a picture. The house was easy due to it being very symmetrical. I would really like to do another one of these as I enjoy drawing and it was fun for me.
I really enjoyed working with cardboard and sculpting this wonderful cactus. I used a roll method to make the cactus which turned out to be really difficult because I was not accurate enough with the knife. I would like to potentially do something like this again because I enjoyed making something out of cardboard
This project was really fun for me as I like to do perspective drawings. I believe I did Really well. I would have wanted to add more details to the buildings and maybe even more buildings. In the future I plan to do a bigger perspective drawing with more detail and realistic buildings.
This painting was very challenging due to me being bad at painting. I found it very hard to shade and blend the colors, and I will continue to work on it. I drew the shape of the head and the shapes inside, then put down the primary colors, then layered the black on top. Finally starting with black I shaded to red then blended to the head. Overall considering my skill level I think I did a great job and will continue to work on my artistic skills.
I really enjoyed this project because it was something other than drawing and it gave us a challenge. It was very hard to get nice straight lines and make the whole thing symmetrical. The lettering was the biggest challenge as we basically eyeballed it and it was not very proportional. I would love to do another one of these and try even harder than this time
